History

The Laboratory of Catalysis and Interfacial Phenomena (LACFI) was founded by Professor Faruk J. Nome Aguilera in 1977. Prof. Faruk was born in the Province of Linares, Chile. His name is mentioned on Wikipedia in the section “Notable natives of Linares” along with other intellectuals and artists such as Pablo Neruda. Several well-known researchers in Brazil were supervised by Prof. Faruk, namely:

 Prof. Ademir Neves (in memorian), Prof. Santiago Yunes, Prof. Vanderlei Machado, Prof. Josiel Domingos, Profª Vera Frescura, Prof. José Gesser, Prof. Bruno Spoganicz, Prof. Valdir Correia – UFSC professors – and also from other institutions as Prof.ª Elisa Orth, Prof.ª Vanessa do Nascimento, Prof. Tiago Brandão, Prof. Márcio Lazarotto, Prof. Paulo Costa, among many others.

Currently the laboratory is coordinated by three Principal Investigators (PIs):  Bruno Silveira de Souza (since 2013), Ricardo Ferreira Affeldt (since 2016) and Adriana Passarella Gerola (since 2018).
