Research

THE CATALYSIS AND INTERFACIAL PHENOMENA LABORATORY is linked to the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN CATALYSIS AND MOLECULAR AND NANOSTRUCTURED SYSTEMS (INCT-Catalysis) and operates in the Postgraduate Program in Chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina.

CATALYSIS, the laboratory’s main line of research, comprises HOMOGENEOUS CATALYSIS, HETEROGENEOUS CATALYSIS, NANOCATALYSIS and PHOTOCATALYSIS.

These fundamental strategies are applicable from the synthesis of macromolecules such as polymers, self-organizing materials, surfactants, supramolecules to small photoactive and bioactive molecules. In addition to developing new organic and material synthesis methodologies, the products obtained are applied to various purposes such as obtaining sensors, bioactive compounds, formulations, fuel production and degradation of substances toxic to the environment. We also dedicate efforts to understanding the mechanisms of action of different types of catalysts, as well as the complete characterization of catalysts and reaction products, collaborating at national and international level.
